Dispatch to a Friend: Scotland Break, June 25th - 28th 2019

from 600.00

Join Annabelle Hickson and Gillian Bell for a special trip to Scotland to spend four days and three nights sketching, cooking, fly fishing, flower arranging, rambling, whisky tasting and feasting in the beautiful grounds of a grand 18th century Scottish country house and Stair House, in the Hamlet of Stair.

Auchinleck House, the estate of the famous Boswell family in Ayrshire, 45 minutes from Glasgow and 1.5 hours from Edinburgh, will be our headquarters.

Chef Toby Cushnir, formerly of Skye Gyngell’s London restaurant Spring, will cook for us, using the best farmed and foraged Scottish produce he can find. He believes cooking is, as Jane Grigson puts it, about good things, “and a cook is someone who takes care of those good things, putting them with other good things and pointing them in the right direction.”

We have the much celebrated Edinburgh artist Domenica More Gordon joining us to lead a sketching class. Her aim is to help us “catch those spiderweb thin moments of inspiration and mere whispers of excitement which a colour, shape , word, book title, or landscape suddenly throws up.”

We will spend a day in with our Scottish Dispatch ambassador Sue Bullen (we met her when we were in Scotland last year and hit it off immediately) at her family home Stair House, a late 16th century house complete with turrets (it is like something from a dream), where Sue has lovingly created a garden filled with flowers. We will picnic on the riverbank if the weather is fine, or huddle by her Aga if it is not, learn how to fly fish in the Ayr river with world class angler Sue Niven and play around with flower arranging with Annabelle.

There will also be cake baking with Gillian, whisky tasting, walking through the fields in wellington boots foraging for elderflower, dressing for dinner each evening in the grand dining room, Scottish country dancing and, of course, bagpipes.

Our friend, well-known Australian photographer Luisa Brimble, is joining us as part of the crew, bringing her vast photographic knowledge and her genuine passion for bringing people together.

Days filled with beauty, relaxation, friendship and laughter, just as you would expect from a Dispatch to a Friend gathering.

The fee includes everything except for transport costs incurred for your arrival to and departure from Auchinleck House. While you are our guest you can leave your purse in your room.
